Skeptics Guide to the Universe host, Steve Novella, outlines a protocol for determining whether psychic mediums are real, or using "cold readings" techniques.

"... certainly our starting point, our starting hypothesis, is that there is no paranormal psychic phenomenon going on here... the whole point of designing a protocol is that the bias should be rendered irrelevant... and the protocol has to be at least tight enough that we can rule out what our hypotheses...which is that mediums produce the results that they do through cold readings."
